MODERATOR & SPEAKERS

MR. ROGER GILBERT - PERENDALE PUBLISHERS LTD.

Roger Gilbert is the publisher of International Aquafeed magazine and has been working in the sector globally for over 20 years. Prior to that he was Secretary General of the International Feed Industry Federation, recognising that aquaculture would play an increasingly important role in human nutrition. To ensure information is shared as widely as possible he publishes his magazines in multiple languages. He is a New Zealander, based in Cheltenham in the UK, and is a trained journalist. Mr Gilbert will moderate the webinar which focuses on the future development of aquaculture in Europe

DR. BERNHARD ECKEL - DR. ECKEL ANIMAL NUTRITION GMBH & CO. KG

Bernhard Eckel, an agronomist holding a doctorate in animal nutrition, got to know the industry from scratch. He is Vice President and Chief Technical Officer at Dr. Eckel Animal Nutrition, a Germany-based family owned enterprise offering high-quality, innovative feed additives for livestock and aquaculture. Distributed worldwide, Dr. Eckel’s pioneering feeding solutions combine commercially successful animal nutrition with animal welfare. In his position, Bernhard Eckel is responsible for technical sales, product development and animal welfare, and thus plays a major role in the success of the company.

DR. KARTHIK MASAGOUNDER - EVONIK

Dr. Karthik Masagounder is currently heading the Aquaculture Research in Evonik based in Germany. He joined Evonik in 2012 in Singapore as a technical service manager and moved to Germany in 2015 as a Research manager. In his current role, he is leading various projects focusing on nutrition and health of fish and shrimp. His research interest and expertise include amino acid and energy nutrition, functional ingredients, and feed additives. Karthik is an author/co-author of over 30 peer-reviewed papers and a book chapter. 

Dr. Masagounder received his Bachelor and Masters from India and PhD from the University of Missouri – USA, specialized in aquaculture and aqua nutrition. He did his postdoctoral research on carp biogenetics at the USGS – Missouri.

MR. ERIK HEMPEL - NOR-FISHING FOUNDATION

Erik Hempel has over 40 years’ experience in the fisheries and aquaculture industry, and as an FAO employee has served as Director of INFOFISH (Kuala Lumpur), INFOPÊCHE (Abidjan) and INFOSA (Windhoek). He has also held positions in Sarawak, Bangkok, Tanzania, Singapore and Norway.
Since 2008, Hempel has been living in Norway and worked as an independent consultant and as Director of Communications at the Nor-Fishing Foundation, which is organizing the technology exhibitions Nor-Fishing and Aqua Nor. He is also a prolific writer, and currently also serves as Editor of the Norwegian edition of International Aqua Feed.

DR. BENEDICT STANDEN - DSM

Benedict completed his PhD at Plymouth University, UK, in 2015 where he researched the effects of functional feeds in aquatic species.  He joined BIOMIN in 2016 as a Product Manager responsible for Gut Performance additives. In January 2022, Benedict joined the DSM team as Head, Global Aqua Marketing. DSM is a purpose lead, performance driven company committed to developing a more sustainable global animal production industry. In his role, Benedict is responsible for aqua strategy and marketing, and also oversees the diverse Performance Solution portfolio, consisting of eubiotics, enzymes, mycotoxin risk management and special nutrients.
