How to prepare optimal fish injection campaigns with the original Socorex self-refilling syringes
There are many elements to consider before fish vaccination. Following advises help keeping a good control over your campaign.
Planning a campaign is the first important step. Estimate the fish's weight, or preferably weigh the fish, to determine the drug dosage. Select adequate injectable product and carefully follow manufacturer’s instructions to reconstitute it. Prepare and mix only the quantity required at the time, prior to administration.
Unless previously autoclaved, automatic syringe and accessories must be first cleaned by aspiration of boiling dest. water. A sterilized instrument can be used straight away. Do not apply disinfectant or chemicals as they may destroy vaccine efficiency. Select best appropriate syringe model and capacity according to campaign purpose and size of fish.
Injection needles made of long lasting stainless steel prevent breakage. Select length and gauge and vaccine type. To minimize tissue damages, prefer smallest possible needle diameter (25 gauge or less) size, yet taking vaccine thickness into consideration. A smooth flow must be guaranteed to reduce operator’s hand fatigue and unnecessary instrument stress. Superior quality needles are supplied in a safety packaging limiting risk of injuries and contributing to operator’s protection.
The injection site should be swabbed with antiseptic. Make sure syringe is free of air-bubbles. The vaccine volume should not exceed tolerance limit per injection spot, based on fish type and size as prescribed by the pharmaceutical company.
When vaccination is completed, rinse, disinfect, clean and dry the syringe according to manufacturer’s guidelines. Dispose single-use and worn-out needles in safety container. Store any re-usable equipment in a clean and dry location. Keep vaccines, diluents and other sensitive materials in a cool and dark place.
Traceability is guaranteed by keeping track record of vaccination parameters such as injection date, operator’s name, vaccine type/name and volume, lot and expiry date. As safety of fish farm personnel and consumers come first, respect any applicable local and national laws.
