The right hen for every situation
Verbeek expects the popularity of the H&N Coral hen will increase in the coming years. The company foresees an upcoming trend in the consumption of Coral eggs. “We think consumers will appreciate these specialty eggs and therefore expect an increasing demand. VIV Europe is the right platform to promote the H&N Coral to a worldwide audience.” The Coral hen lays a large number of eggs with a top shell egg quality. Shell egg quality is an important feature, as is different weight and colour of the eggs. Verbeek supplies seven different strains of Lohmann- and H&N layers. The company offers a great choice of hatching eggs or day old chicks for (or to start) a flock of commercial layers. “For each environment or climate throughout the world we have the right hen. Flexibility in delivery, high health- and quality standards throughout our production chain are the key factors of the success of our H&N- and Lohmann hens.”
Largest hatchery in Europe
Verbeek's Hatchery will soon start to build a new hatchery in Zeewolde, the Netherlands. The new layer hatchery will be the largest in Europe, replacing the current one in Lunteren which has become too small due to the continuous growth of the business. The state-of-the-art Zeewolde hatchery will be built on a 2.5 hectare area and will have a capacity of 30 million female chicks per year, expandable toward 45 million. Verbeek deliberately has chosen for this location. “We need the extra space, but what is also important is that the area has no poultry farms in the direct surrounding. This is a different situation from our current location, in an area with a high concentration of poultry farms.”
Nivo Varia
Verbeek is a pioneer in the development of alternative rearing systems for layers. There are certainly differences in character between breeds, and some layers are better adapted to alternative layer housing systems. The rearing system does make a big difference. The development of the so-called 'Nivo Varia system' was a great step forward. Layer pullets who have been reared in this system are ideally adapted to any aviary system for commercial layers. The unique feature being that each and every layer chick, from day one to the last day of the rearing period is forced to find the water by jumping onto plateaus that are above the living areas with feed.
